Lake Bluff-based Orren Pickell Designers & Builders Receives Top Honors at 39th Annual Key Awards

On Wednesday, November 16th, The Home Builders Association of Greater Chicagoland (HBAGC), Northern Illinois Home Builders Association, and Home Builders Association of Greater Fox Valley honored Orren Pickell Designers & Builders with five Key Awards. Judged by a panel of respected industry professionals, the Key Awards recognizes exceptional work in the home building industry and draws hundreds of entries each year. Among the firm’s accolades were two of the highly coveted Crystal Key Awards; the highest honor in the industry.

Pickell’s extensive remodel in Kenilworth was one of the projects to receive the industry’s acclaim. Situated on a highly visible property in the heart of Kenilworth, the original home was long considered the “ugly duckling” of the neighborhood. With the homeowner’s vision and the skill of Pickell’s team, they remodeled the home – which had an exterior of peeling, white painted brick; an overgrown lawn; a run-down and unkempt indoor pool; oddly shaped roof domes; and an ill conceived layout – and transformed it into a dream home the owners always wanted. The builders were able to preserve the structure of home, but developed an entirely new floor plan, which is now open and inviting, revived all the rooms, and converted the indoor pool into an incredible great room. No detail was overlooked as they transformed the home from an “ugly duckling” to an award-winning residence.
